In the lead up to our A2 music video production we planned and made a tester version, that showed us what skills we will need to learn and what skills we already know in order to produce a good music video. It gave us a chance to test what would and wouldn't work. We all worked in small groups of our choice. In this task we were trying to master the art of lip syncing, and also filming on location to a summer song, we then would have to edit our footage to create our music video.
I was in a team with Laura and Perry. We looked at a range of "summers songs" and we agreed on "Summer Nights" from the popular film Greece. We were all could have a go at lip syncing as there is a male voice (Perry) and we could use both of the female voice between Laura and I. This also meant we would have an equal opportunity behind the camera and setting up shots which was good for each of us to try and to see what angles and positions worked well. However because we were just experimenting with basic skills of lip syncing. Overall when we got to filming we didn't waste time thinking of it due to just wanting to practice and correct lip syncing.
When it came to lip syncing we had the song on an MP4 player which we had in our ears while we were filming to get the feel of the song as well as a short time to film it in and we weren't looking for aesthetic appeal it was to practice the basic skills, one of our shots also had the song lyric sheet it in and although this helped us master what we wanted to in our actual music video production we wouldn't have anything that looked like this as it wouldn't give the right look and would look unprofessional.
After this, we edited our shots to the music which included improving our skills, or at least I found my editing skills were improved, and making sure the music fitted over our filming and we matched the lip syncing, we could see from this that our lip syncing skills were actually quite good for all three of us so this was something we did not have to keep improving on or spend much time doing and now when it comes to thinking of our A2 production we don't need to worry to much about thinking of the lip syncing.
When it came to our Mise-en-scence, we didn't consider what we would wear to fit in our video just yet, a bit like our camera work, we didn't have a specific shot or outfit in mind at this point. The only shot we thought about was when Perry was on the car bonnet and we also made sure his head and body were positioned so he was in the middle of the shot.
Overall, I was very happy with the first outcome of our practice task, considering none of us had ever tried lip syncing before and yet we managed to master it. There is always room for improvement such as the Mise-en-scene and camerawork but as this was a basic task and a practice I am not to worried about this and feel we acheive what we had hoped too.
